As announced earlier this month, the University of Miami Libraries has begun the first phase of renovations of the public and storage spaces for the Special Collections and University Archives. The project will be carried out throughout 2015.
In order to prepare for the renovations, we had to move our less frequently researched collections from Brockway Hall to our offsite storage facility in Miami Lakes. Examples of collections relocated include the Office of the President Records, University of Miami Press publications, bound volumes of The Miami Hurricane, and several organizational records of the university’s schools and departments.
Please call us before you visit us at the Special Collections Reading Room, as some of the items we used to be able to retrieve while you waited may no longer be available on site. We will do our best to retrieve requested items, such as a book and organizational records in 1-2 boxes, in a few working days. We may need more time to retrieve larger collections. Please note that delivery service from Miami Lakes to Richter will not be available from April 20 to May 6, while Richter Library stays open 24/7 during the final exams.
During the renovations from June to December 2015, the Special Collections and University Archives remain fully open at the Cuban Heritage Collection’s Conference Room on the 2nd floor of Richter Library. Our frequently researched materials, such as IBIS and other university publications, Historical Photograph Collection, and Campus Architecture Collection are still available in the temporary reading room. We apologize for the inconvenience during the renovations.
